the adoption process
Potential adopters are screened and sign an agreement concerning conditions of adoption. Our adoption policy is strict because we want only serious and dedicated people who are able to make this kind of commitment. We care very much about these animals and do not want any of them to end up in "the system" again.

While we prefer adoptions to people within a 100 mile radius, so that we can monitor the health and care of the animals, we have adopted animals to residents outside of Texas under special circumstances. Please email Charlene if you fall under this category.

necessary forms
We only require that you fill out the adoption application form for the animal of your choice. In our "related downloads" section of this page you will find Cat & Kitten, Couple (for two animals placed together) or Dog & Puppy applications. Download the application which corresponds to your choice and email this to Tracy or bring with you when you come to visit the Sanctuary.

We will review the application with you and should you choose to adopt an animal from SARA, keep it in our files for tracking purposes.

required fees
While it is hard to put a "price" on the adoption of one of our special animals, these fees help defray our expenses in providing the animal: its shots, medications (such as deworming, flea and tick treatment, rabies vaccination), food, and the cost of spaying/neutering the animal, if necessary.

Prior to going home all adopted dogs are:

Neutered/spayed

Tested for heartworms and on preventative

Have all shots: Distemper, Parvo, Corona, Parainfluenza, Adenovirus type 2, Bordetella, Leptospira, Rabies

All are dewormed and defleaed prior to going to a new home

Prior to going home all adopted cats are:

Tested for FIV and Leukemia

Vaccinated against: Rabies, Feline Leukemia, Panleukopenia, Claicivirus, Rhinotracheitis, Pneumnitis

Dewormed w/ Strongid

All have Advantage for fleas and Ivimec for ear mites

All neutered/spayed,

heart worm free, and updated on shots.

The required fees are as follows:

Cats and kittens: $150.00

Dogs and puppies: $150.00

Farm Adoption Fee Varies. Contact Char for details or download the Farm Animal Adoption Form.

Adoption fee also includes spay/neuter services and all shots

Couples: all animals are two for the price of one.
