Walker:
4 years old, he is a Walker hound that is terrified of people, but likes other dogs. While Walker is not adoptable, he is happy here and has a safe and happy environment.
Axel:
Axel was left here dec 7, 2008 with 6 siblings- all down at the gate in the rain on a cold day. They had been left in a flimsy wire kennel, but had broken out. They were scared and would not come to us, so we had to capture them. They were about 5 months old. One brother was adopted, but the rest are still here. They are Scared of people and three of them are a little aggressvie. Axel now lives happily on the grounds of SARA as the greeter of the sanctuary and as the un-official mascot.
Pinto Bean:
Huge 4-year-old pit bull, sweet but cannot be with any other animals, as he will attack them. He once belonged to a homeless man in San Antonio who gave him up to SARA when he could no longer care for him. Now Pinto Bean has a pen to himself and room to run around.
Bowser:
he is a 2 year old Great Pyrenees dog, found running the streets in a small town near here called St. Hedwig. Bowser wasn't neutered and that breed loves to roam, so he most likely was lost. Traditionally, Great Pyrenees were turned out with herds of goats and sheep to protect them from coyotes, so he never learned to walk on a leash, aquire socialization, etc. He loves his "pack" consisting of a family of female dogs who were all found together in an abandoned lot not too far from St. Hedwig!
Kumar:
Skittish and an escape artist, Kumar is a 4 year old Weimaraner mix. He was trapped in a Dallas park and brought to SARA. Overly protective, Kumar has displayed some aggression and is not a candidate for adoption. He will need to live in a protected area at the sanctuary.
Zoe:
Zoe once spent 12 - 15 hours a day, alone and tied to a tree while her owners were working and was then crated for the night. As a result, Zoe developed behavioral problems. One day, Zoe's tail was caught on a picnic table; and in an attempt to free herself, she chewed off her tail ... leaving muscle, bone and nerves exposed. Her pain led to aggression even after neighbors took her in, gave her the medical care she needed and tried to address her issues. She now also lives at the sanctuary with a menagerie of dogs, cats and livestock. While Zoe is not suitable for adoption, she will live out her life well cared-for and with room to run and play.
