Why adopt from SARA?

the meaning of life
Many of the animals at SARA have known pain, starvation, abuse or neglect. Through the unique environment of love, care, sunshine, open space and the opportunity for building relationships with other animals at SARA Sanctuary, these animals gain an entirely new awareness of love and trust. They seem to truly cherish each day of their freedom and new life at SARA. To these animals, it seems that even a simple game of "fetch" is not just a game, but an expression of joy and sincere appreciation for you and their new life.

our animals have names, not numbers
Local "no kill" non-profit shelters do not accept sick, seriously injured, or abused pets. Instead, these animals are referred to the City or County Animal Center where they are killed if not found to be "adoptable." In the City of Austin, for instance, an average of 29 pets are killed every day. They cite the costs of rehabilitation for the animals as too high.

SARA Sanctuary, however, sees the real value of rehabilitation and the profound effects of this deep motivation to live and love again. SARA has seen the powerful relationships these deserving animals have developed with their adoptive families.

money, not space constraints
SARA will never run out of room to take abused and abandoned animals; however, like many non-profits, we rely almost exclusively on donations. Because of the unpredictability of incoming funds, we are forced to keep our numbers as controlled as possible. By adopting one animal from SARA, you actually help two - one gets a happy home with you and another animal without hope can begin a new life at SARA.

out of sight, out of mind
SARA has so many animals that want a good home. Our remote location - 40 miles from San Antonio and 70 miles from Austin, prevents the high adoption rate we would like. Unlike in-city shelters, which get frequent visitors and have high adoption rates, we are limited - in visitors and in adoptions.

Now, more than ever, we need you to adopt from SARA.
