Foster a Dog or Cat
More info about Fostering
What is Fostering
Fostering is a temporary living situation for an animal at SARA while they are waiting for their placement into a forever home.
Why Foster
Foster families are a huge benefit for SARA’s residents as they literally save lives! Having fosters step in and provide temporary homes for SARA’s animals frees up space for new ones to be welcomed into SARA. Often, SARA receives animals who require special attention as they are either in need of special medical care, too tiny to be left unattended, unable to reside with other animals, or traumatized from their previous living situation and in need of a quiet home where they can decompress. Other animals can benefit from being in a foster home as it is a great way to provide an animal with socialization and to increase their marketing for adoption. Whatever the case may be, all of SARA’s animals are promised safety and love from their foster families.
Being part of the foster team at SARA comes with it’s own personal benefits! Many of SARA’s current fosters report a feeling of satisfaction in being able to provide special care for their furry companions, even if it is for a limited time. Many fosters are unable to adopt a companion animal due to time restraints or living situations, therefore the short term commitment of fostering allows them to enjoy the company of animal without the lifetime commitment. If you have the space in your home for an animal and the desire to help one of SARA’s residents move closer to adoption, fostering is for you!
How Long Is a Foster Commitment
Length of stay depends on the animals unique situation and the amount of marketing provided by the foster family and adoption counselor. Ideally, SARA’s foster animals will remain with their foster family until they find their forever home, however we understand life gets buys and this is not always possible. SARA will welcome the animal back at anytime if you are unable to continue caring for your foster friend.
