Rocket was at Texas country dog who liked to run fast and play. He hitched a ride from Seguin to Chicago with Fetching Tails Foundation and immediately found Emily Coffey as his foster mom. Emily explains why rescuing Rocket, now named Grover, was not rocket science. Rocket/Grover at SARA Sanctuary in 2020 “Year 1 with Grover! We decided to foster at the start of the pandemic. I’d always wanted to, but wasn’t sure I could handle it with our work schedule. I made a New Year”s resolution to try it – I applied with my local shelter to foster cats, where we got our first foster as the country was about to shut down. Our friends adopted her, and we decided to try dog fostering since I was working from home, and we got connected to Fetching Tails Foundation.” “We fostered four different dogs, including another from SARA (Mari now Kira). When we met Grover, who was Rocket then, he was the sweetest dog – we thought he was just getting adjusted but he has not changed all that much from that sweet boy we met a year ago.” Rescue team Joanie & Grover waiting for treats “Within a few days, he was integrated within our household and became good friends with one of our cats, Kingston. Kingston didn’t like any of our other foster dogs and keeps his distance from our first dog Joanie. So when he was Kingston approved, we knew we couldn’t let him go.” Grover’s Gotcha Day at Fetching Tails. Happily a foster fail. “A year later, Grover is doing great! He plays wonderfully with Joanie, loves his walks (especially when he gets a pupcup!) and charms every person he meets. And he is wonderful with our cats, especially his bud Kingston. He can be picky with other dogs, but loves any dog who respects his boundaries and will eventually play with anyone.” Couch time with the family & Kingston “Grover is so charming people literally will stop their cars to ask us about him. We finally got a dna test just so we could stop making up the answer to “what kind of dog is that?!” He is truly one of a kind.” Grover’s DNA test to figure out what kind of Supermutt he is. “I would encourage anyone to foster if they are thinking of adopting. It is a wonderful way to figure out the personality that catches your heart and works with your family. And if the animal isn’t a great fit, you’ve helped an animal on their journey to their forever home and will love it when the adopters share information with you about how happy they are together!” Find more posts with Grover and his family on Instagram: joaniegroverandthekittycats SARA PARTNERSHIPS TO SAVE ANIMALS SARA works with shelters and rescues across the state, US and other countries to help place dogs and cats in new homes.
